One of the most exciting times of the year for me as a stylist is FASHION WEEK!
I love seeing what deisgners come up with, what's next and what will be the packing the stores soon.
This year was a big return to 80's fashion. Sholder pads. BIG sholder pads. Tight pants. I even saw some neon colors thrown in there.
Another strong influence was a tough of 60's mod fashion, especially in make up. A dark heavy lid and high constasts. So visually interesting.
Strong primary and secondary colors were featured very heavily, especially as an accent to an all black outfit. I even saw the most intersting look: all black with a monocromatic hat in a orange or purple. Very much in the feeling of the 80s, but yet some how modern, re-done and new.
Another HUGE trend is shoes. I kept seeing the same sillouette: an ankle length boot with at least a 3 inch+ heel that had laces. Accessories are absolutely gigantic this season, and when you think about it, that's really clever because you can update your current wardrobe with a few key accessories. These designers are brilliant I tell you, just brilliant.

More Trader Joe's Buzz
Just a little update on the Trader Joe's in Portland Buzz:
http://avecfashion.blogspot.com/2009/02/i-love-trader-joes.html
Yesterday I stopped by the Whole Foods in Portland and mentioned to the cashier that I had heard Trader Joe's was coming to Portland Maine and she said that she had heard the same thing, and the buzz was all around the store. So even the competition knows, pretty cool.
So it looks like Trader Joe's really is coming to Portland Maine!

I love Trader Joe's!
I have been dating a wonderful man who lives near Philly for several months. I drive down from Maine to see him every few weeks. This 8 hour journey takes me past New York and Boston so sometimes I stop by the stores Maine does not have. On my way back home I stopped by Trader Joe's in Boston and I got the BEST NEWS!
For those of you who don't know, Trader Joe's is a grocery store like a cheap version of Whole Foods where you can get wonderful foods at resonable prices and organic foods too. Some of their items are just incredibly cheap. The prices change a lot and the stock changes some what too, but I can tell you I got amazing organic navel oranges for 39 cents each.
As I was going through the check out line and talking with the very, very helpful employees about what would and would not make the 2 hour trip back to my house in Maine I joked around like I always do about how they really *should* open a store in Maine for me, the cashier said, "Oh we are. The guys in the warehouse have been talking about it all week."
I said something like oh really? And the next thing you know another co-worker comes over and COMFIRMS that there will be a Trader Joe's opening in Portland Maine!
There is no word on WHEN or exactly WHERE this store will open but the distrubutors at the Massachusetts Warehouse for Trader Joe's are already making plans to send things up north to the future Portland Maine location - and this is from the word of mouth of Boston store employees - always a good sign!

Grammy Awards LOVE
The 51st Annual Grammy Awards have come and gone and WOW what a lot to take in on the red carpet!
This year was all about geometric shapes, clevage, slick smooth hair and 80's references.
Another reoccuring theme: the almost overuse of detail. The details of certain garmets seemed to take over entire enembles!
I have to give snaps to Coldplay for the Sgt. Pepper inspired jackets. I liked them. Even the pink one.
This was all about contrasts. Either the dress was short and above the knee or had a train, a long train or a super long train. The dress was either completely symetrical or the fabulous asymetical one sleeve that is all the rage this season.
There was also some AMAZING hair! Paris Hylton: didn't like the dress, but love love LOVED the hair. Jennifer Hudson: OOOO interesting dress - very geometric, very retro 80's; wonderful colours and I loved her hair! Love love LOVED her hair! Audrina Patridge had a side bob that was beautiful, I loved the contrast of her hair - unsymetrical and her dress - symetrical, lovely and her handbag was amazing.
Best Leggings of the night: Cyndi Laupher. She looked beautiful. Totally retro 80's but updated. I love her. I even loved her white blonde hair.
